Confusion

Several days ago Elizabeth said her first word, "Dada!" I was super excited because I've been saying Dada and Mama over and over to see if she would pick it up. And sure enough she did, the only problem is that I have found that she says it to me if she has fallen over or really hungry or basically anytime she wants me to come to her aid. My guess...she is calling me Dada.

No worries, I'm just happy she has started on the journey of speaking. I don't mind her calling me dada now, we'll work it out later.

Yay, for another first for the baby girl!

Dinner With Dungy

On Pastor's Appreciation Day we were given so many wonderful gifts. One of them was to the Chick-fil-a /R.O.C.K dinner where former coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Tony Dungy, attended to speak about his new book and ministry.

We got our picture taken with Coach Dungy and were given an autographed copy of his new book.

Brian and I had such a good time with severalfriends and church members and a night out with each other.

Coach Dungy was fabulous speaker and has a wonderful ministry. He is a great Christian man and has a wonderful testimony. We were blessed to hear him speak.

This is such a poor picture of him, but I'll try to post the one we got of us with the coach when we get it in the mail.

Thank you to our friends Hank, Lana, and Shawn for giving us these special tickets and sharing this night with us.

Teefers

Teefers (N) What a crazy mother calls her babies first teeth.

Yep, it finally happened, Elizabeth has her bottom two teeth. I spotted them a couple weeks ago and waited patiently during low grade fevers, fussiness, drool, and lots of chewing just to have them finally make their debut!

She is getting so big and growing so quickly. I tried my best to get a picture her her new pearly whites, but she didn't want to participate in the photo shoot. Oh well.

Yay, for Elizabeth!

Happy Halloween

A few months ago Dad gave me a cute little dress that he had gotten when he went out to eat at a Chinese restaurant. As soon as I saw it I knew it was going to be Brooklyn's Halloween costume.

I got a black wig and that was all we needed for Brooklyn to be a little Chinese girl.

She looked so cute!

It was a little too cold for Elizabeth to join in on our trick or treating so she stayed with Mom and Dad while we were out with Brooklyn. But next year I have big plans for her and the famous Cowgirl costume, just you wait!

IU Pep Rally

Yes, it has been a busy day. A doctor's appointment for both girls, the Tibbs Picnic, and an IU Pep Rally all in one day! SHEW!!! The IU Varsity Members were invited to a special Pep Rally for the basket ball team. The rally took place in the new addition to the football stadium and I must say it was beautiful.

As we walked in the band was there to greet us and several of the cheerleaders were walking around to greet the guests. But what impressed us the most was the food. We were not expecting to eat and were making plans before we got there as to what we were going to do afterwards, but upstairs they ad tables and tables of stadium food, pop corn, candy bars, nacho cheese, cookies, and hotdogs. It was wonderful.

We then were introduced to the 2009/2010 men's basketball team and Coach Crean. We had such a good time. I'm hoping they'll do it again next year so I can take the girls and get their pictures with the cheerleaders.

Annual Tibbs Picnic

Each year the Tibbs family goes to the Henryville Forestry towards the end of October to eat, play, and have fun. I believe this was the 10th year they've (I joined 5 years ago) had it.

We had such a good time. This year the trees had already peeked in color but it was still a beautiful day. Brian is serious about keeping the same traditions. We always eat KFC, play on the play ground, go up to the lookout and check out the view, climb the fire tower, and back down to the entrance area to play basketball and football.

We had a wonderful day and look forward to next years picnic.

(Be ready here are a lot of pictures from our day.)

(I love the cute face Elizabeth is making.)

So if you are interested in looking back, here are the blog posts from the last few years: 2008, 2007, & 2006. It's funny to see how much the kids have grown.

6 Month Wellness Check & Brooklyn's Doctor Visit

Today Brian and I took both the girls to see the doctor. Brooklyn is still a little sick and her cough has gotten pretty bad during the night and it was time for Elizabeth's six month wellness check so I got Brooklyn appointment for the same time as Elizabeth's.

This was Brooklyn's first time meeting the new doctor and she was very shy. It blows my mind how different she acts when a stranger is around. She bounced all over the room looking at the fish on the wall, peeking out the windows, and asking when it was time to go, but once Dr. Corba walked in she was as quiet as a mouse.

He looked at Brooklyn first and she sat so still while he listened to her lungs. She looked like such a big girl. He recommended some over-the-counter medicine and checked her ears and gave us a prescription just incase it got any worse. Other than that she is just fine.

Then it was time for Elizabeth's wellness check. He gave her a good exam and said she looked just great. As you can see from the sticker she has grown. She's sixteen pounds, but doesn't feel like it when I carry her. I guess it is still because I carry Brooklyn around sometimes. And she is also twenty six inches. I am amazed by how quickly she is growing.

She has had a runny nose and the doctor asked if this had just started but I told him that I thought it was just because her two bottom teeth are just below the gum line and about to break through. He agreed.

So our visit to the doctor went really well. Hopefully we will not have to see him until her nine month visit and everyone will stay well.

29

Today I start celebrating the last year of my twenties. I had a wonderful day with the girls and tonight we all went out to eat with Mom, Dad, and Matt. After dinner we returned to mom and dad's house and ate a Derby pie (I prefer that to cake...yum!) I know, I know, the nine is backwards.

I've learned that once you have kids you don't ever get to blow your own candles out any more. But that's fine with me.

It's just so crazy to think that next year I'm going to be 30. That sounds so grown up and I don't feel like a grown up. I still feel like a teenager, although I wish I had my teenager body. Life is going by so quickly. But I praise God that I have lived a blessed life so far and I hope He continues to bless me for the next 30+ years.

6 Months

I am amazed that half the year has already passed since I had my baby girl. Time truly passes so quickly.

Elizabeth is such a happy baby. Although the majority of her 5th month was spent not feeling well, she always had a smile on her face. She is truly a joy to have around.

She had a little congestion during the first part of October and has it again, but I think some of her runny nose is due to her two bottom teeth trying to make their way in. Yesterday she was chewing on my finger and I noticed how different her gums felt and looked to find her baby teeth just below the gum line. You may see them in the next picture if you look closely. She still refuses the bottle except to chew on it.

She is getting a little more independent. She likes to sit in the floor and play with her toys and even plays with Brooklyn and her toys. She really likes her mirror, Elmo ball, and Brooklyn's Nemo.

She has recently found her toes and loves to suck on them when she gets the chance.

Her new favorite food is squash and likes to help me put the spoon in her mouth. And it must taste better when she sticks her fingers in her mouth because that is where her little hands always end up.

She loves playing peek-a-boo with Brooklyn. She's always interested in what Brooklyn is doing, but at times wants her own space.

She also loves her Daddy and loves when he reads to us. She watches him so intensely as if she understands every word he is saying.

She is still a good sleeper and usually wakes up in a great mood.

I am so blessed to have such a good baby with a sweet personality. I have loved this past six months and can't wait to see what she'll be learning and doing during the next six.

The Flu

Yes, I am now paranoid about this Swine Flu. I never thought I would have the girls vaccinated for it, but now I'm thinking maybe otherwise.

Monday evening Brian came home from work and said he felt funny. We were rushed for time to get Brooklyn to tumbling and dinner with the Spencer's so we didn't think much of if. Until about three o'clock Tuesday morning I woke up to hear Brian coughing like crazy. Poor guy felt so bad that he slept on the couch.

I went in around five thirty and he felt hot. He said he felt awful and was delirious during the night. So when Brooklyn woke up around seven I made her come to bed with me and wait until Brian had gotten some rest. He was supposed to do a funeral that morning, but I told him that if it were my family I wouldn't want him around so he called them and they got another minister.

We decided that he didn't need to be around the girls so he headed to his parent's house. I called him later that day and he sounded horrible. He went to the hospital and they confirmed that it was the flu, but he tested negative for H1N1 but they said that the test might not be correct since they were testing him so early.

I covered the couch and chair with sheets and Lysoled everything. I've been washing sheets, pillow cases, blankets, and just about anything else that was in the living room during the night.

The girls seemed fine until yesterday afternoon when Elizabeth started coughing. I kept checking her temperature and it remained normal. Towards the evening she started getting a runny nose and some head congestion. Last night was long. I was up throughout the night with Elizabeth. I got about three hours of sleep this morning before Brooklyn got up.

As soon as Elizabeth got up I called the doctor and they told me to come in. Her six month wellness check is next week so we'll have back to back visits. It was my first time meeting Dr. Corba, he was really nice and did a good job, but I truly miss Dr. Godsey. He told me that her lungs sounded fine, ears looked good, and the snot, for lack of a better word, was clear, all good signs. She is also nursing really well so that is also a very good sign.

He didn't want to put her on any medication since she is still so young so we are just going to wait it out. We are still not out of the woods for them getting the flu so I'm going to keep a close eye on both the girls and keep praying that they don't get it.

As for Brian, he is still feeling very bad today. When I talked to him this morning he sounded horrible but this afternoon after the doctors appointment he sounded much better.

So this swine flu shot is sounding better and better to me. I really hate it though because the girls are on a delayed vaccination schedule and I hate to give them a vaccine that hasn't been thoroughly tested (in my opinion) yet. I'll just have to pray about it and see. Plus, I may go and get the flu shot just in case for myself. Decisions, decisions.

So please keep the Tibbs family in your prayers. I'm really drained after such a long night and Brian being MIA. I just think it's a little ironic that Brian specifically prayed that God keep the flu out of our church and then he is practically the first one to get it. That's just God's humor I guess.
